You’ve got an amazing concept, complex characters, and a compelling story, but you need to figure out where the songs go. It’s time to song spot.
Song spotting is an important part of the writing process, but how do we DO it? Is having good songs enough, or are there other factors to consider? Is there an overall structure to a show’s song plot? Why is the opening number the key to a successful musical? Why do so many shows have an “I Want” song?
Come learn classic formulas and creative solutions to this dilemma at the Writers Guild Song-Spotting Master Class on October 23rd. You'll learn:
what makes a good spot for a song
a traditional song plot and why it works
how the right song carries your story forward
how to use reprises effectively
how traditional song spots carry spiritual opportunities
